Disability Advocacy Specialist
Lesego Modutle was appointed as the first full-time South African Sign Language interpreter at the University of Cape Town in 2012 where she provided classroom interpreting for Deaf students enrolled for the following courses: Law, Gender Studies and the Environmental and Geographical Sciences. All students successfully achieved their degrees.
Realising her potential, the university promoted Lesego to the position of Disability Advocacy Specialist in 2016, expanding her portfolio to incorporate various disabilities. She currently holds this position on a full-time basis. Lesego has been involved in the disability community for over a decade and continuously works towards expanding her knowledge and experience in this field. Lesego is multilingual and is a member of the University of Cape Town's Language Policy Committee.

Lesego's vibrant personality and professionalism landed her a spot between the period of 2011 and 2013 on South Africa's Flagship Youth Entertainment Show, Hectic Nine 9 which broadcasts live daily on SABC2. With her in-depth knowledge of disabilities and her ability to facilitate in fun, energetic yet respectful and sensitive manner, Lesego was the best choice to present a six-part series which follows the lives of seven people whom each have their own disability. Life Begins after Coffee aired on Saturdays at 18h00 on SABC2 and showed how job creation for people with intellectual and physical challenges can help build an inclusive society, but more importantly, give people with disabilities some dignity and self-worth. Lesego achieved her Post-graduate Diploma in Disability Studies at the University of Cape Town which put a a cherry on top of her acquired in-depth knowledge on disability awareness and inclusion and equipped her with the knowledge on how to monitor and evaluate disability inclusion in the work place.
